I'm content to wait. ANet can take all the time they want, and if you don't like it, I think you should lump it or leave it.
When GW2 comes out, I will buy it, and play it. Until then, I'll stay with GW1.

Also SC2 not to mention any other future FPS on the horizon. I really don't think Aion is really going to capture much of the NA market tbh, once people play it, find out it's plagued by bots, kill stealing and gank fest Castle Siege World PvP as an end game. It all depends, but I see Gw2 most likely coming the Spring of 2011. Too many other games like Global Agenda, Stars Wars, Champions Online and DC Universe Online all slated for later this year or just after.

If you want to see the clear difference between how it should be done and what anet do, just look at http://www.swtor.com.
That game was announced less than a year ago, and while it has no release date, its expected to be 2010 at the earliest.
These days, game development span years, but that doesn't mean a complete lack of information for the fans during the process. Regular flow of information is part of a games marketing, to get it out there, show how its progressing, get people interested in it.
Although you cant exactly accuse NCSoft of ever properly marketing and promoting Guild Wars, it seems to rely on fan site and word of mouth rather than any kind of advertising presence.

It's a Korean MMO, and they usually don't have much of an appeal outside of where it was developed. What it does have going for it are shiny yet not terribly overkilling graphics. The RvR also having an NPC faction sounds like a good idea since having only two sides can have a few repurcussions as witnessed in Warhammer. But still I'm not terribly interested in it. You can't judge MMO's by first impressions, and that's pretty much the only thing all of the people I know talking about it have.
Largely, I'm just a bit ticked when someone's like "GW's gonna be doomed against D3!". And yes, that's true. But what game isn't going to be "doomed" against anything Blizzard releases?
ANet does have an edge, though, and that's in GW1 being pretty successful with a large amount of positive reviews.

a Game like this takes a while to make chill out, relax it is going to arrive. Find something to do until then, preferably something that does not involve QQing.

The point of this thread isn't "zomg why izn't dis game out yet durr"
Its, why if the NCSoft timeline is correct about at least a 2010 release at the earliest, haven't we seen more than a pretty logo someone could make in a day and a lot of vague lore.
We have no screenshots, no in-game footage, no class info, no HoM rewards, no specific storyline info (except for the general lore stuff), no info on how long they will continue the game and whether it will be in chapters or expansions (although I recall reading they were leaning towards expansions), no info on what effect jumping/etc... will have on skills, whether there will be mounts, and on and on and on...
Essentially we have a pretty logo and alot of half-assed lore. Both of which I'm sure could have been made in a day if everyone agreed on it and didn't spend time arguing.

Good job on making yourself seem right, and the truth is, you ARE correct.
The problem is, you provide no reason for the lack of info. I think it's been established that games with at least a year till release should start slowly beginning to hype. The Old Republic was one good example. No it does not at all matter when it comes, but I think it's reasonable to be a complete skeptic, seeing as how the "beta at the end of 2008" never came true. Its now halfway through 2009, and we still have not seen a screenshot or any in-game footage.
The lack of in-game footage or screenshots might be understandable if there was definite information about parts of GW2 that would concern GW1 players.
I'm just questioning what they're doing with GW2 because I have found GW1 to be enjoyable. I think they have let players down in the subsequent management of gw1 since the transition, and it would go a long ways toward restoring player faith to show the players why support has declined and whether or not they can still create a good game with great support. GW2 is only a legitamate cop-out for GW1 if they show us something definite about it. Otherwise it just sounds like "the dog ate my homework teach."
EDIT: On "half-assed lore" I was referring to GW2. With eotn they did a complete 180 degree setup for GW2, and it wasn't too bad, but the transition to a typical mmo with the main antagonists being dragons and whatnot is seen in the GW2 lore. GW1 didn't follow this typical setup.

Your concern and frustration at ANet not releasing anything else is understandable, but it's pretty uncalled for to call their lore "half-assed". ANet's put a lot of care into their world, and that's part of the reason we've become so connected to GW1.

And the amount of lore released thus far for GW2 is in anyway comparable to the wealth of knowledge released for Prophecies before it went retail? No, not yet it isn't.
I don't think 'half-assed' was fair, either, but it's not entirely without merit to the poster's point of the lore being too little, in quantity and detail.

@shoyon456: Releasing lore, screenshots, movies, and info in no way helps or increases sales. They don't need to keep fans interested with GW2 content because anyone who's a fan will buy GW2 regardless.
Content is typically made/finalized during the last year, which means GW2 has no real content right now, and they're just starting to create most of it. They probably have a lot of art assets, but nothing really "put together". A lot of companies string together what looks like a working level or sequence of events, but it's all just smoke & mirrors so they can release a gameplay movie. Think of any gameplay movie you watched in the past. Did the final product have that level or sequence? Did it play out like the movie depicted? Was it the first thing you did in the game, and almost feel as if it was only tacked-on just because they released an early gameplay movie of it?
Any gameplay movie made 6-12+ months before a game is released is basically just smoke & mirrors, a glorified magic act.

And yet, looking at all the lore prior to release - heck just prior to beta - most, if not all, was changed in many ways. For instance, the stories - Saul's name was different, the name of Ascalon City was changed, the importance of guilds in the world was reduced later on, Devona and co. went from main heroes to side heroes, etc. etc.
We cannot compare the two amounts of lore yet because GW1 had more time to release lore before the release of the game compared to how much time GW2 has been in development and what lore was given. The lore we have for GW2 is just "filling the gaps between games" for the most part. For all we know, the Ancient Dragons won't be real enemies and they are just used as sentient "forces of nature" for the next game - neither good nor evil, and never confronted direct, but a constant obstacle for the game.

Kuntz says it allhere! as an old timermyself I STILL want dual wielding like Devona can in that prerelease video that was put out 6 months before Prophecies release...
and no! Assassins can't dual wield, they just have one two handed set, it just happens to be in two parts in each hand!

Half of my previous guild stopped playing gw for AION even though it was in China/Korea only. I think more will follow when they release it in Europe.

I'm a bit frustrated yes, but that's probably my own fault.
Patience is one of the many virtues I don't have and I'm dying to see a glimpse of the game that's going to surpass the one I'm playing now.
Just hope we get some info soon before I explode :P
